Workers' compensation helps law enforcement in Ohio

Professionals in every career and location care about their own safety and the safety of their co-workers. The United States has come a long way in the last few decades in protecting workers who had previously faced unacceptable risks, but some employees still face problems and require assistance through insurance and workers' compensation laws.

Workers' compensation claims can lead to more than financial help for people hurt in the workplace. Claims can forward the cause of workplace safety in some of the country's most dangerous professions. For example, the Buckeye State's injured worker fund is making moves to keep some workers safe and prevent future problems.

Ohio's attorney general announced that the state's Bureau of Workers' Compensation will contribute thousands of dollars to replace expiring bulletproof vests. Officers with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation filed a grievance with their union after management apparently did not replace the equipment on time.

The state will make funds available to local law enforcement agencies and contribute to local match programs as well. The program is designed to reduce workplace injuries related to the personal protective equipment, as police and emergency service workers face harmful or even lethal threats on a daily basis.

Workers who need to file a claim for compensation after an injury in the workplace may consider legal representation for the duration of their troubles. An attorney can help judge the best way to file a complaint or claim, as well as access other legal recourse if agencies or insurers fail to meet their obligations.
